The Nino Research Group focuses on the investigation of structure-processing-property-performance relationships in energy related materials systems and multifunctional ceramics. Current research focus includes optimization and development of materials for:

  • High frequency and high temperature dielectrics, ferroelectrics and piezoelectrics
  • Electrolytes for solid oxide fuel cells and intermediate temperature proton conductors
  • Inert matrix fuels for nuclear reactors
  • Tailored ceramic foams for tissue scaffolds and enhanced heterogeneous catalysis
  • Single crystals for scintillator and semiconductor-based gamma-ray detection

Materials investigated within the group include oxides, carbides and iodides, as well as polymers which are synthesized and investigated in nanopowder, nanofiber, thin film, foamed (cellular), bulk, and single crystal form.
